Big News for It Takes a Village Central IL

God has stirred our hearts into starting a new program to better serve families in need.
Starting in January 2018 we will be offering hygiene and cleaning products to our families in need! This will include many things we feel are vitally important to healthy living.
This means we will be changing our current program. As of October 1st, 2017, we will no longer be handing out men’s and women’s clothing. We’ve come to this decision based on the low number of articles of clothing we are giving away. We feel the space would be better utilized with hygiene and cleaning products to make a bigger impact on the lives of those in need.
We will still be handing out children’s clothing sizes newborn-14/16 and a smaller amount of linens.
We are currently accepting donations of the following items:
-laundry soap, fabric softener
-tooth brushes, toothpaste, mouthwash
- shampoo and conditioner
- body wash/bar soap
-deodorant
-razors and shaving cream
-Kotex/tampons and panty liners
- Band-Aids and first aid items
- diapers, pull-ups, and wipes
- Home Cleaning Supplies
- Depends (adult care)
-toilet paper and paper towels
-other misc. items that would benefit families in need

Sunday, October 9, 2016

  1. Host a Toy Drive for our Annual Christmas Giveaway
  2. Host a Sock and Underwear Drive for families in need
  3. Volunteer during our Annual Christmas Giveaway (set up, help during our event and tear down). I can give more details if you would like.
  4. Donate Monetarily, one time gift or reoccurring monthly gift
  5. Volunteer on Thursdays 10 am to 4 pm or Saturdays 10 am 12 pm (closed 1st Saturday and holiday weekends). Tasks include sorting clothing by sizes, hanging clothing, pulling empty hangers from racks, sorting hangers into appropriate bins.
  6. Organize charity fundraisers to benefit ITAV that would then benefit families in need.

Help from the community in each area is vital to the success here at ITAV. We look forward to partnering with you to reach those struggling and need a hand.

We are busy preparing for our next annual Christmas Giveaway, set for December 10th of 2016. ITAV is projecting an estimated 150-200 children will register to receive help this holiday season.
We take a unique approach to our giveaway by allowing our families to free shop for their children. Some families do not have the ability to purchase toys on their own and ITAV’s event allows them a similar shopping experience to a store but at no cost to them. We keep a detailed list of the children’s ages and genders to ensure we have a sufficient amount of items to choose from.

The Christmas Giveaway will take a large amount of volunteers to make it a success. We have many areas where you can help out.
  • ·         Donate a new unwrapped gift or gift card
  • ·         Sponsor a Toy Drive
  • ·         Monetarily donate any amount
  • ·         Help with set up for the event
  • ·         Walk families through the shopping area
  • ·         Help tear down when the event is over

If you are interested in being a part please reach out to us!

Support our Organization

It Takes a Village Central IL requires hard work and dedication to keep the doors open--it's a job we are all honored to do. During 2014 the Board Members volunteered a total of 3,310 hours. We pour in many hours at the units to keep things going so families can shop weekly for their needs. We also meet monthly, and talk daily about the operations and how we can better the organization.

We also work year round to come up with funds to support ITAV. Last year the Board Members spent a total of $3,571.96 out of pocket and ITAV itself spent $4,373.00.

ITAV relies on monetary donations to remain a success. Every penny we receive goes back into ITAV and supports families in need. No one receives monetary pay for their work.

This year our goal is to raise $10,000. This money will go towards our rent, restocking our shelves, our Christmas Giveaway and special purchases for items families need.

Our long term goal is to move into a bigger space, that will allow for easier shopping.  It would also allow additional space for large items we can't store and offer to families.

Please consider helping us help those in need. We can't do it without you!

Please click the paypal link to support ITAV today or go to our  Go Fund Me Page.

The Village Comes Together to Help Mahomet Apartment Fire Victims

We would like to thank the community for their outpouring support to those affected by the Lake of the Woods Apartment Fire.

ITAV was on the scene immediately helping those displaced by the fire, as well as other First Responders.  We coordinated with the First Responders and local churches to fill immediate needs.

The fire resulted in 32 residents that lost all or most of their belongings.

With donations from Walgreens, community members and ITAV Board Members we put together cleaning bags and are working on putting together a hygiene bag that includes toiletries.

We have a list of the families affected by the fire and are working with them.

Families are slowly moving into new homes, and ITAV will be here to continue to fill and meet their needs!
